When it comes to the NFL, most people prefer to spend their time discussing which teams have the best chance at earning professional football immortality by winning a Super Bowl title. It’s far less common to see fans, analysts, and experts engaging in a debate over who will be the worst NFL team in a given season, despite the fact that the dubious honor comes with the No. 1 overall pick in the next draft. That didn’t stop the oddsmakers in Las Vegas from tackling the subject, however.

With the start of the regular season now just days away, here is a look at who the bookmakers are picking to be the worst team in the NFL in 2018.

Odds courtesy of as of August 23, 2018.

New York Jets (+550)

The Jets are in rebuilding mode. Nobody will argue that notion. They also have enough talent to sneak up on teams this season. On top of that, they are set to play one of the easiest schedules in the league (on paper).

We don’t see the Jets making the playoffs by any means, but we also don’t see them as the worst team in the league.

Cleveland Browns (+500)

The Browns are on this list because, well, they are the Browns. The franchise hasn’t posted a winning season since 2007, and they have won a grand total of four games in the last three years.

There is no denying that the overall talent level is up in Cleveland, but until they prove that they can win when the games count, it’s easy to understand why the oddsmakers think so little of them.

Buffalo Bills (+350)

That’s right, the oddsmakers are picking the Bills to be the worst team in the entire NFL just one year after the they defied the odds and made a surprise run to the AFC Playoffs.

The oddsmakers’ lack of faith likely stems from Buffalo’s offseason roster turnover (which was the 3rd highest in the league), and the fact that they appear to be headed towards opening the season with Josh Allen, a talented but raw rookie, as their starting quarterback.

Other notable teams to keep an eye on:

  • Arizona Cardinals (+700)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+800)
  • Miami Dolphins (+1200)
  • Chicago Bears (+1500)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (+1500)
  • Indianapolis Colts (+2000)
  • Washington Redskins (+2000)
  • Oakland Raiders (+3500)
  • Denver Broncos (+3500)
