Thanks to an overhaul of the PGA Tour schedule, golf fans will get to enjoy the 2019 Players Championship much earlier in the year than in years past.
Golf’s “5th major” is set to begin this Thursday, and as usual, the field is loaded with talent. Unsurprisingly, Dustin Johnson (+1200), Rory McIlroy (+1200), Justin Thomas (+1600), Justin Rose (+1800), and Rickie Fowler (+1800) are listed as the odds-on favorites.
Tiger Woods, the player most casual fans will be tuning in watch, is currently sitting at +2200. And for what it’s worth, I really like Woods’ chances at contending for his third career win at TPC Sawgrass if he has truly recovered from the minor neck injury that forced him to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week.
Given the strength of this field, there is plenty of value to be had on the betting market — when will you ever see Tony Finau at +5500 again? With that being said, here is a look at three high value bets to win the 2019 Players Championship outright.

Webb Simpson (+5000)
Simpson cruised to victory (literally) at Sawgrass in 2018. While I fully understand the difficultly and unlikelihood in repeating as tournament champion, there is simply no denying that the 2012 U.S. Open winner has a skillset that’s well suited for the track at Sawgrass.
In Strokes Gained: Approach and Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green, two of the most important statistics at Sawgrass, Simpson ranks 12th and ninth on the PGA Tour in 2019, respectively.
Sergio Garcia (+3300)
Garcia won at Sawgrass back in 2008, and given his recent form, it’s hard not to like the Spaniard going into the 2019 Players Championship.
If Sergio’s short game is working, he will be in contention on Sunday. And with a 33-1 potential payout, it would make perfect sense to take your chances here.
Matt Kuchar (+6000)
TPC Sawgrass is the type of course that eliminates any length advantages for big hitters, which is why players with Kuchar’s type of skillset typically thrive at the Players Championship.
Kuchar won at Sawgrass back in 2012, and he has already notched two outright wins this season. At 60-1, you have to like his chances this week, even if you hate him for his part in the ugly dispute with his fill-in caddie back in November.
