If we’ve learned anything from LeBron joining the Lakers it’s that, sometimes, stars just can’t stay away from the bright lights. Daniel Craig is the perfect example of this. The actor, who appeared to be done playing the role of “James Bond,” has decided to hold onto his spy badge for at least one more film.
Set for release in 2019, and directed by Slumdog Millionaire‘s Danny Boyle, this film will be the 25th installment in the Bond franchise. It will also mark the fifth time Craig has reprised the coveted role. And while we thought Spectre would be Craig’s swan song in the franchise, one would have to believe Bond 25 will be the actor’s final performance as the famous British agent.
Of course, as we all know, the show must go on. And when Craig finally decides to turn over his license to kill, someone else must assume the mantle. According to Vegas, these actors are the odds-on favorites to become the next 007.
Odds courtesy of MyBookie as of July 17, 2018.
Idris Elba (+650)
Idris Elba would be an unbelievable 007. Whether he’s trying to own the game in The Wire or protecting civilization from the Kaiju — they’re big-ass monsters, in case you were wondering — invasion in Pacific Rim, Elba pretty much runs shit. It’s probably a longshot, but we’d love to see “Stringer Bell” take over the Bond mantle.
Aidan Turner (+650)
Aidan Turner is most notable for his role of “Kili” in The Hobbit trilogy. Full disclosure: we didn’t catch any of those movies. It’s not that we’re against adapted fantasy novels, it’s that, honestly, after the Lord of the Rings movies, we just needed a break from the shire. Still, if Turner ends up being a fan favorite, who are we to complain?
Jack Huston (+600)
Just watch Jack Huston as “Richard Harrow” in Boardwalk Empire, and you’ll understand why he’s among the favorites to be the next Bond. Seriously, the dude is mesmerizing. Someone, please do 007 fans a favor and give this man a license to kill.
Tom Hardy (+200)
Tom Hardy is as versatile as they come. One minute, he’s pained with unbridled emotion, the next, he’s the suavest cat you’ll ever meet. He’s also more than capable — and we mean, MORE THAN CAPABLE — of handling the physical and taxing demands of the role. For our money, Hardy is Bond. James Bond.
James Norton (+180)
We’ve only watched a couple episodes of McMafia, but we definitely see the appeal of James Norton. As a banker who’s slowly sucked into the corrupt criminal underbelly, Norton has an undeniable presence about him. Plus, at just 32 years old (he turns 33 on July 18), the English actor’s youth could very much be seen as a positive. That is if the producers wish to explore the early, early origins of the legendary spy.
Other names to watch:
- Tom Hiddleston (+900)
- Michael Fassbender (+1100)
- Jamie Bell (+1100)
- Jude Law (+1300)
- Jack O’Connell (+1800)
