History has proven that upsets happen every week in the NFL. With that being the case, we are fairly certain that there will be at least one or two shocking upsets during Week 3 of the 2018 NFL season.

There may not be an upset on the level of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beating the New Orleans Saints straight up in Week 1, and then following that up with another shocking upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, but there is sure to be several teams that find themselves on upset alert come Sunday afternoon.

That said, here is a look at three potential upsets — against the spread (ATS) — in Week 3.

Odds courtesy of as of September 21, 2018.

New Orleans Saints over Atlanta Falcons

Point Spread: Falcons -3.5
Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA

Anytime the Saints and Falcons meet, there are sure to be fireworks. In this matchup, we are expecting an offensive shootout that could potentially come down to which team has the ball last.

The Falcons’ defense has been hit hard by injuries (they will be without linebacker Deion Jones and safety Keanu Neal — both Pro Bowlers), and we just don’t see them slowing down the trio of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas.

Atlanta will also likely score plenty of points, and maybe even win this game, but we just don’t see them beating the Saints by more than a field goal.

Denver Broncos over Baltimore Ravens

Point Spread: Ravens -6
Location: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD

In our eyes, the Vegas oddsmakers are giving the Ravens far too much credit here. Their Week 1 victory over the Buffalo Bills looked impressive at the time, but with the Bills looking like one of the worst teams in NFL history (literally), that is no longer the case. And in Week 2, the Ravens got dismantled by the Cincinnati Bengals, a team many people had picked to struggle in 2018.

Baltimore’s home field advantage will be a major factor in this one — especially for a team like the Broncos that is still trying to establish their identity.  Nonetheless, we are expecting this to be decided by a field goal in either direction in what will end up being a much higher scoring affair than the over/under (46) would suggest.

Dallas Cowboys over Seattle Seahawks

Point Spread: Seahawks -1.5
Location: CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA

The Seahawks are tough to beat at home, but in 2018, they are shades of the team that was a perennial threat to contend for a Super Bowl title.

In this game, we see the Cowboys’ ball control offense, and surprisingly dominant pass rush being the difference.

Seattle’s defense is allowing 116 rushing yards per game, which doesn’t give us much confidence in their ability to slow down Ezekiel Elliott. And their offensive line, which is among the worst in the league, has allowed a whopping 12 sacks in two games.

Expect the Cowboys to win this game straight-up.
