Jimmy Butler is ready to get the hell out of Dodge. And by Dodge, we mean Minnesota. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the four-time All-Star requested a trade from the Timberwolves. So much for the club’s championship aspirations.
While the front office, particularly head coach Tom Thibodeau, is against the idea of parting ways with Butler, it would appear owner Glen Tayler has different plans. If you ask us, it’s only a matter of time before Butler winds up on another team. And we’re not the only ones who feel that way:
“The owner’s trading him,” one Board of Governors attendee told ESPN on Friday. “That was made clear. It’s just a matter of when.” https://t.co/MMrB4gVX8P

With Butler likely on his way out of Minnesota, oddsmakers can’t help but get in on the action. So, which team will the talented two-way be suiting up for in the 2018–19 NBA season? Here is how Vegas sees it playing out.
Brooklyn Nets (+900)
The Brooklyn Nets aren’t exactly an elite team, but that doesn’t seem to faze Butler. Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Brooklyn Nets are one of Butler’s three preferred destinations. The Nets will have the cap space to sign the All-Star to a max contract this summer. This seems like a move the organization should definitely consider.
Los Angeles Clippers (+200)
The Clips are another one of Butler’s preferred trade destinations. In fact, according to Woj, he is “most determined to find a way to the Los Angeles Clippers.” The organization will have enough cap space this summer to sign two max free agents, and that is appealing to Butler. Time will tell if it comes to fruition.
Minnesota Timberwolves (-200)
The odds suggest Butler is going to remain in Minnesota, but honestly, we think that ship has sailed. The Timberwolves just signed Karl-Anthony Towns to a super-max contract worth $190 million dollars over five years, and they know Butler will not be around for on-court activities at the start of training camp and will also not be present at media day (the day gave him permission to miss it). Forget the odds, we expect this divorce to be settled sooner rather than later.
Other teams to watch:
- Boston Celtics (+1000)
- Philadelphia 76ers (+1400)
- Los Angeles Lakers (+1600)
- New York Knicks (+1600)
- San Antonio Spurs (+1800)
- Indiana Pacers (+2000)
