10 games. That’s all it took for the Houston Rockets to realize that signing Carmelo Anthony was a bad idea. Hey, you can’t win ’em all, right?
Fortunately, instead of wasting any more time, they decided there was only one thing left to do — move on.
Statement from Daryl Morey on Carmelo Anthony’s future with team.
“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution.”
— Houston Rockets (@HoustonRockets) November 15, 2018
The Rockets, in taking a chance on Anthony, may have swung for the fences and missed, but at least they didn’t rest on their laurels. You have to think that some other NBA team is going to do the same. The question is, who’s it going to be?
According to Vegas oddsmakers, these teams are the favorites to sign Melo after he’s released by the Houston Rockets.
Los Angeles Lakers (+500)
The Los Angeles Lakers signed everyone else this offseason, so we wouldn’t put it past them to take a flier on one of LeBron James‘ best friends. However, no matter how entertaining this move might be, we’re not convinced it makes a whole lot of sense from a “basketball” standpoint. We’ll get our popcorn ready just in case.
Philadelphia 76ers (+350)
The Philadelphia 76ers decision to trade for Jimmy Butler shows they’re ready to compete for championships right now. And while we have a feeling they’re not done making moves, and adding another shooter to the mix should be a top priority, we don’t think Melo is the answer. According to PhillyVoice’s Kyle Neubeck, the organization appears to feel the same way.
Portland Trail Blazers (+200)
We love Damian Lillard. We absolutely LOVE Damian Lillard. So, if the Portland Trail Blazers believe signing Anthony will help Lillard and company take the next step, then we say go for it. Of course, if we’re being completely honest, we can’t see how this move possibly helps the Blazers. Hey, at least we took the time to think about it.
Any Chinese Team (+140)
Despite what the odds suggest, we think it’s a little too early for Melo to be thinking about taking his talents China. That being said, if Anthony does, in fact, choose this route, he better join forces with Jimmer Fredette. That’s all we’re saying.
