The 2018 Major League Baseball season is heating up, as the contenders have begun to officially separate themselves from the pretenders. And that just gets us even more excited for the upcoming postseason.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s remember there’s still some crucial regular-season ball left to be played. Of course, that’s not going to stop the folks in Vegas from releasing their latest odds. With that in mind, here’s a look at their favorites to win the 2018 World Series title.
Chicago Cubs (+800)
The Cubs don’t have the weight of a 108-year championship drought on their shoulders. That is the good news. Of course, just because the organization is no longer haunted by the ghost of a certain Billy Goat that doesn’t mean it’ll be satisfied with just one ‘ship. Manager Joe Maddon will have his club ready to compete in the playoffs.
New York Yankees (+750)
The New York Yankees are serious about winning the franchise’s 28th title. This was evident in the offseason acquisition of slugger Giancarlo Stanton. So far, the addition has paid off, as the Bronx Bombers lead the league with 192 total homers (26 more than the next closest team). If the Yanks can keep their bats hot, it’s easy to picture them playing well into October.
Los Angeles Dodgers (+600)
The Dodgers came close to winning the World Series last season, but couldn’t get the job done in the deciding Game Seven. This year’s squad, which currently sits in second place in the NL West with a 64-55 record, is eager to make up for past mistakes. Hopefully, the acquisition of All-Star Manny Machado will help Los Angeles get its Hollywood ending.
Houston Astros (+400)
The Houston Astros are the defending World Series champs, and they’re certainly not resting on their laurels. With a 73-46 mark, the club holds a 2.5-game lead over the A’s in the AL West, and it’s looking like a second straight division title is in the cards (don’t tell that to Oakland fans). While repeats are tough to come by in professional sports, the Astros have what it takes.
Boston Red Sox (+375)
The Boston Red Sox are the best team in baseball. They have the top record in the game at 85-35, they boast an impressive +213 run differential — it pays to have Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez on the roster — and they have a nearly unhittable ace in lefty Chris Sale. The Sox, who currently stand 9.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East, are well-positioned for another World Series run.
Other notable teams to watch:
- Cleveland Indians (+800)
- Philadelphia Phillies (+1600)
- Oakland Athletics (+1800)
- Arizona Diamondbacks (+2000)
- Milwaukee Brewers (+2000)
- Washington Nationals (+2200)
- Atlanta Braves (+2500)
