The contract standoff between Le’Veon Bell and the Pittsburgh Steelers has officially gotten ugly. Some of Bell’s teammates have turned on him (which is a major violation of the unwritten rules of the National Football League), but the the three-time Pro Bowl running back remains steadfast in his quest to maximize his value in free agency next offseason.
Bell’s holdout has officially spilled into the regular season, and the oddsmakers in Las Vegas are now taking bets on when the former Michigan State star will play his first game in 2018. Here’s a look at the odds for when Bell will play his first game this fall.
Odds courtesy of BetOnline as of September 9, 2018.
Week 1 (+200)
This one is obviously not happening.
Week 2 (+200)
Based on what we know as of today, the chances of Bell reporting for Week 2 are slim-to-none. Make this bet if you want to line your bookie’s pockets with your hard-earned money.
Week 3 or After (-150)
Based on the odds, Vegas is expecting Bell to miss a hefty chunk of the 2018 regular season. His agent has made it clear that the All-Pro running back wants to protect his value on the open market next offseason, so it’s very possible this holdout could go all the way into Week 11 — the absolute latest date Bell can report and still accrue a credited season towards free agency.
If we were making a wager, this is where we would put our money.
Does Not Play in 2018 (+2000)
Bell is looking for a massive payday during free agency next offseason. If he doesn’t play in 2018, that won’t be happening.
Bell will play at some point in 2018, don’t make this bet.
