Unlike college basketball, dark horses rarely make a championship run in college football. Year after year, the usual suspects steamroll the competition in their respective conferences and barring any sort of controversy, they typically advance to the College Football Playoff with a shot at a national title on the line. And while that’s not exactly the most exciting scenario, that doesn’t mean college football fans care any less.

Devoted fans aren’t the only ones who care about the outcome of the college football season; oddsmakers also have skin in the game. With that in mind, here’s a look at who Vegas is picking to win the 2019 CFP national championship.

Georgia Bulldogs (+800)

The Georgia¬†Bulldogs will be more motivated than ever after faltering in last year’s CFP national championship game. This was evident in the squad’s 45-0 thrashing of lowly Austin Peay in the season’s opening weekend. If quarterback Jake Fromm can play at a high level all year, there’s every reason to believe the Bulldogs will return to college football’s biggest stage.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+750)

The Ohio State Buckeyes won’t have suspended head coach Urban Meyer on the sidelines for the first three weeks of the season, but that didn’t affect the team’s confidence against Oregon State in the season opener. Heisman hopeful Dwayne Haskins threw five touchdown passes, and the No. 5 team in the country demolished the Beavers by a score of 77-31. It would seem the Buckeyes are the cream of the crop in the Big Ten once again.

Clemson Tigers (+400)

Clemson may have handily defeated Furman 48-7 in the season opener, but there are more questions than answers surrounding Dabo Swinney’s group. The Tigers may very well make another run at a national championship, but it’s hard to imagine the No. 2-ranked team in the nation reaching its full potential until it officially hands over quarterbacking duties to true freshman Trevor Lawrence.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+220)

Since taking over as head coach back in 2007, Nick Saban has led the Tide to five national championships (he won another at LSU) and turned Alabama into college football’s premier program. With Tua Tagovailoa under center, not only do we fully expect the Crimson Tide to return to the College Football Playoff, we expect them to go back-to-back.
