Through six weeks of regular season action, the 2018 NFL MVP odds look drastically different than they did during the preseason.

Entering the season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was listed as the odds-on favorite at +500. He was followed by Carson Wentz (+700), Tom Brady (+850), and Deshaun Watson (+1500).

Fast forward to today, and those four players are no longer contenders in what is shaping up to be a three-horse race for the highest single-season individual honor in the National Football League.

With that being said, here is a look at the three players with the best chance at taking home the hardware as 2018 NFL MVP, according to Vegas.

Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams (+400)

For the second consecutive year, Gurley is on pace to have one of the all-time great single seasons by a running back in NFL history.

Through six games, the former Georgia Bulldog has rushed for 623 yards and nine touchdowns, and he has caught 21 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. That puts him on pace to finish the 2018 season with 1,661 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground, and 56 receptions for 659 yards and six touchdowns through the air. If he posts those types of numbers and the Rams keep winning, it will be extremely difficult for MVP voters to overlook Gurley.

Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints (+300)

It’s truly hard to believe that Brees has yet to win an NFL MVP award during his illustrious career. That could all change in 2018, however.

Through five games, Brees has put himself on pace to have the best statistical season of his legendary career. More importantly, he has guided the Saints to a 4-1 overall record.

Bottom line: If he keeps up his current rate of production, Brees has to be considered the favorite here.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (+225)

Simply put: Mahomes has set the NFL on fire in his first full season as the Chiefs’ starter. He has Kansas City off to a 5-1 start, and he has accounted for 20 total touchdowns (18 passing, two rushing).

If the Chiefs end up with home field advantage throughout the AFC Playoffs, it will be because of Mahomes play. And if Mahomes accounts for 50+ total touchdowns, it’s hard to envision a scenario where he doesn’t win the 2018 NFL MVP award.

Other notable players to watch:

  • Tom Brady (+800)
  • Aaron Rodgers (+1000)
  • Carson Wentz (+1500)
  • Jared Goff (+1500)
  • Philip Rivers (+2000)
  • Kirk Cousins (+3000)
  • Alvin Kamara (+4000)
